EXTRAORDINARY UPDATE: Beau’s Coffee hopes to start hiring trend

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  You’ll soon have another option when it comes to getting your coffee in the Port City and there is nothing like it around!

Amy Gage Wright, a former WWAY Extraordinary Person of the Week, is opening a coffee shop on the corner of Kerr and Wrightsville Avenue. It’s part of her mission to get folks with intellectual disabilities meaningful work. That’s the goal of her non-profit www.AbletoWorkUSA.org and Wright says this coffee shop is a perfect example.

“This coffee shop is named Beau’s Coffee and everyone that works here will have downs syndrome or another intellectual disability,” Wright said.  “They’ll be running the register and making the coffee and bagging the beans and we’re hoping to make a real impact in the community and show other people that people with disabilities are great and hopefully they’ll adopt this business model at their business.”

Wright’s son, Beau, and her daughter, Bitty, have Down syndrome.  Wright says to mark your calendar…Beau’s Coffee GRAND OPENING is Monday, Jan. 25th 8am-12 noon.
